DEAR SIR,

CANADA HOUSE,

ABERDEEN, 31st December, 1890.

Referring to our Mr. Reid's interview with you the other slay, we have considered very carefully Mr. Kempt's letter, and we are prepared to recom- mend & gentleman for the vacancy. We refer to Mr. DAVID Wood, who has recently been appointed Commercial Chief at the Engineering Works of Barry, Henry & Co., which as you may know, is one of the largest concerns of the kind in Scotland; but, of course, the concern as now developed is young and the Hongkong offer being tempting Mr. Woon has no hesitation in declaring himself anxious for the situation.

Mr. Wood is 25 years of age, is strong, intelligent and thoughtful, and

a man of resource.

He is a capable bookkeeper, good penoun, and a ready errespondent. He has had four years' experience at the Oak Tree Foundry and seven years' at the Albion Iron Works, and now a twelve months' at Messrs. Barry, Henry & Co. He has been known to us for several years through our connec- tion with the Albion Iron Works and Barry, Henry & Co., the accounts of which concerus we have audited. Mr. Woud has had experience in checking men's time and he has taken particular interest in costing; besides, he is well read in the theory of Contractors' and Builders' work, and he has on various occasions interested himself in all accounts of practical Engineering work, having been fortunate in securing admission to some of the largest concerns of the kind both in England and Scotland.

We feel sorry for Messrs. Barry, Henry & Co.'s sake to recommend Mr. Wood for the post, but we consider him undoubtedly able to fill it, and think Mr. Kempt should arrange an interview with him at once.

We return Mr. Kempt's letter and we are,

Yours faithfully,

(Sd.) JAMES MESTON & CO.,

Chartered Accountants, &c.

To

WILLIAM ALEXANDER, Esq., LL. D., Aberdeen.
